14.5. Macros: Making Excel Work for You

A macro is a recorded series of actions that Excel can play back automatically, at high speed and with perfect accuracy. Macros are useful for automating tedious processes, such as formatting or data entry tasks.

For example, if you're constantly getting malformed expense reports because someone in Sales insists on changing the formatting in mileage cells to Currency instead of Number, you can write a macro that selects the mileage column and reformats it as Number in the blink of an eye.
