Chapter 6. Managing a Print Job > Building a Preflight Droplet

Building a Preflight Droplet

A Preflight Droplet is a separate application you build from within Acrobat that is used to perform different Preflight tests. In effect, you create a separate mini program when you create a Droplet. You don’t need to open Acrobat to preflight a file if you create a Droplet; instead all you need do is drag the file to the Droplet’s icon to automatically process and test the file using the Preflight settings you chose when you created the Droplet. A Preflight Droplet can be stored on the desktop or added to the Start menu in Windows.

Before creating a Droplet, add folders to your hard drive to use for storing the results of the Preflight Droplet’s processing. Dinah adds two folders to the desktop named PDF Files for Printer and PDF Files-Errors (Figure 6.23). It’s simpler to create the folders before configuring the Droplet. When she creates the Droplet, she’ll assign the PDF Files for Printer folder as the receiving folder when the Preflight test is correct and specify the PDF Files-Errors folder to receive a document that contains errors.
