Calculating Costs

Some calculations can be done entirely within the Properties dialog of a form field. In other cases, you need to use JavaScript, which is written in the JavaScript Editor, accessed through the Properties dialog.

There are two ways to calculate the cost of the side dishes ordered in Joe’s form—the simple way uses a bit of JavaScript, which is the method Joe opts for. If you’re uncomfortable with JavaScript (and you’re not alone!), there is a less simple, but equally effective way of adding a set of fields to hold each dish’s cost. The nonscripted method adds more fields to the form and requires just a bit more work. You can read how to calculate costs without using any JavaScript in the sidebar “NonScripted Calculations” at the end of this section.
