15.12. How Can I Receive an Attachment Outlook Is Blocking?

Because of the large numbers of viruses, Outlook automatically blocks certain types of files attached to e-mails that could possibly cause damage or harm to your system. When you get an e-mail that has one of the file types that Outlook blocks (covered in FAQ 15.13), that attachment automatically is blocked to help protect your computer and your data from harm.

It is entirely possible that the file you received is a genuine file that will not cause any problems to your computer. If this is the case, you can ask the person who sent you the file to resend the file with a different file extension, such as adding .bak to the end of the file. Alternatively, you can open the blocked attachment or actually stop Outlook from blocking a particular file type by following the instructions in FAQ 15.15.
