Getting Ready to Index

You can use Catalog to create an index file of a few PDF documents or a whole group of files. Catalog organizes your PDF files in groups that can be searched even over a large network.

Because the index keeps track of the locations of words and documents at the time you indexed them, you must devote some effort to setting up your documents before you start the indexing process. If the index is to be used in a cross-platform environment, you also need to take into account the requirements of the different operating systems. An exhaustive description of all the considerations for building an index is beyond the scope of this book, but you'll find several pages of suggestions and requirements in Adobe's documentation.
