Chapter 2. Acrobat In Depth > Using Digital Editions

Using Digital Editions

Adobe's Digital Editions is a feature in Acrobat that enables you to read eBooks—PDF files saved in a special format—on your computer. It's just like reading and turning the pages of a printed book. With Digital Editions you get the rich text and pictures of a PDF document, but without the complicated interface of Acrobat.

Digital Editions does its best to make you think you're reading a traditional printed book. You can make annotations in your electronic book, add bookmarks at significant passages, and quickly flip to any page. But Digital Editions also includes up-to-date electronic features like searchable text, a built-in dictionary, and a built-in mechanism for downloading additional books. In addition, some eBooks include a license, provided by the seller, that allows you to lend and give your titles to other Digital Editions users, just as you might lend out your favorite paperback novel.
