Using measuring tools

You will add some measurements to this file, helping to clarify the size of some of the windows in the drawing. Additionally, you will have Acrobat calculate both the area and perimeter of portions of the construction project.

Using rulers and the Distance tool

1.
Choose View > Rulers to display rulers on the top and side of the document window.

2.
Position your cursor over the horizontal ruler across the top of the document window. Click in the ruler and drag downward, stopping when the ruler guide is aligned with the top of the window on the right side in the Master Bath.

3.
Click and drag a second ruler guide from the ruler at the top of the page, positioning the second guide along the bottom of the same window.

The guides extend to the ruler, allowing you to measure the distance or confirm alignment with other objects. Acrobat also provides measuring tools that can calculate the measurement for you.

4.
Choose View > Toolbars > Measuring. The Measuring toolbar appears.

5.
Click the Distance tool (), and the Distance tool window is displayed.

6.
In the Distance tool window, set the scale for the drawing by changing the 1 in = 1 in to 1 in = 10.75 ft.

7.
Click once on the top of the window on the right side of the Master Bath, then click once on the bottom of the same window. Hold down the Shift key while clicking to keep the line straight.

The size of the opening is displayed in the Distance Tool window as approximately 2.5 ft.

8.
In the Distance Tool window, click the Measurement Markup checkbox. Repeat the process of measuring the window with the Distance tool (). Acrobat creates an annotation showing the distance of the area you have measured. The distance is displayed when you roll your cursor over the annotation.

9.
Repeat this process to measure the window along the bottom side of the drawing.

10.
Click on the Close button in the upper corner of the Distance Tool window to close it.
