Lesson 14. Creating PDF Forms > Adding combo boxes

Adding combo boxes

Use combo boxes to create pull-down menus from which users can select a response or choose a specific item. Here you will create a list of musical instruments that can be purchased from BoomToonz.

1.
From the Advanced Editing Toolbar, select the Combo Box tool ().

2.
Move your cursor to the first column under the heading Item Description.

3.
Position the cursor approximately one-third of the way across the first empty cell in this column. Click and drag down and to the right, creating a box that covers the middle one-third of the cell. The Combo Box Properties window opens after you have completed drawing the box. Keep this window open.

4.
Choose the General tab. For Name, enter Item and for Tooltip, enter Choose first item. Leave the other settings unchanged and keep the window open.

5.
Choose the Appearance tab. For Font Size, select 10 and leave the other settings in this tab unchanged. Keep this window open.

6.
Choose the Options tab. In the Item textbox, enter Make Selection, and then click the Add button.

7.
Return to the Item textbox and enter bagpipes, then click the Add button. Repeat this procedure, adding the following items:

  • drums

  • guitar

  • saxophone

  • trombone

  • tuba

Confirm that Make Selection remains highlighted, as the highlighted text is used as the default selection. Leave the other settings in this tab unchanged.

8.
Click Close to close the Combo Box Properties dialog box.
