Lesson 14. Creating PDF Forms > Exporting form data

Exporting form data

Adobe Acrobat 7 Professional can be used to extract data from PDF forms. Because the form data that is entered is independent of the form itself, the form data can be submitted into a database or extracted and saved as a separate file. You will extract the form data from the information request form, and then transfer the information into an electronic order form.

1.
Choose Advanced > Forms > Export Data from Form...

2.
In the Export Form Data As dialog box, navigate to your Lesson14 folder.

3.
Confirm that the Save as Type is set to Acrobat XFDF files (*.xfdf), enter information as the file name, then click Save. XFDF is an open format that Adobe has developed for storing forms data. The information is extracted from the PDF and saved in the location you specify. Later in this lesson, we will import the form data into another PDF form that you will create.

The process of extracting the data can be more automated and transparent to the user of the form. We discuss submitting forms data later in this lesson.

4.
Choose File > Save to save the file. Choose File > Close.
