Building a new form

In this exercise you will create a product registration form, including a questionnaire for a fictitious company, LPH Technology.

1.
In the Welcome Screen, click the New Form button. If the Welcome Screen is not displayed, choose File > New to access the New Form Assistant. The New Form Assistant is displayed. Click to select the New Blank Form radio button and then click the Next button.

2.
In the Setup portion of the New Form Assistant, choose letter from the Page Size drop-down menu, leaving the Orientation and Number of Pages options unchanged. Click the Next button.

3.
In the Return Method portion of the New Form Assistant, choose the Print radio button, then click the Next button. Adobe LiveCycle Designer reminds you to include submission information with your form. Click the Finish button. A new form is displayed.

Based upon the Return Method that you select, various buttons and other logic may be automatically added to the form you create. For example, the form can be set-up to automatically return the contents to your Email address.

4.
Choose Window > Drawing Aids. The Drawing Aids palette is displayed.

You'll use the Drawing Aids palette to create guidelines to assist in the form design process.

5.
In the Guideline Definition section of the Drawing Aids palette, click the green plus sign (+) in the Horizontal section of the window, and then type 2.75. Press the Enter or Return key on your keyboard. A guideline is added at the 2.75 inch position. This guideline will be used to separate the header from the body portion of the form during the design process.

6.
Once again click the green plus sign in the Horizontal section of the Drawing Aids palette. Type 3 then press the Enter or Return key on your keyboard. Another guide is added at the 3 inch position. Repeat this process to create two more horizontal guidelines at the 9.75 inch and 10.25 inch positions.

7.
Click once on the green plus sign in the Vertical section of the Drawing Aids palette and then type .5. Press the Enter or Return key to add the guideline. Repeat this process to add a second Vertical guideline at the 8 inch position and add two more vertical guides at the 4 inch and 4.5 inch positions.

8.
In the Drawing Aids palette, click the Color option, located in the center portion of the palette located under the Grid & Ruler Settings section. Choose the color red, and the guides are updated to reflect the new color.

9.
Close the Drawing Aids palette by clicking the x in the upper right corner of the palette.

10.
Confirm that there is a check mark next to the Snap to Grid command by examining the View > Snap to Grid command. If necessary, select this command to make it active. You can tell the command is active if a check mark appears next to the command name. This causes objects to align with the grid.

The grid can be displayed or hidden by choosing View > Grid.

11.
Choose the Save button () in the toolbars. The Save As window is displayed. Name the file RegistrationForm, and confirm the Save as type is set to Static PDF Form File (*.pdf). If necessary, navigate to the Lesson 16 folder on your hard drive and then click the Save button to save the file.
