Chapter 11. Receiving Email > Working with Attachments

Working with Attachments

Messages can be accompanied by additional files called attachments. An attachment can be any type of file, such as a graphic, word processing document, spreadsheet, or even a program. When you receive a message with attachments, you can open them, view them in Entourage (if they are compatible image files), and optionally save them to disk.

To open an attachment

1.
In the message list, select or open the message that contains the attachment (normally indicated by a paper clip icon in the message header).

2.
Directly beneath the address information and Subject is the Attachments pane. If the pane isn't open, click its triangle icon.

A list of all attached files appears (Figure 11.12).

Figure 11.12. Attached files are listed in the Attachments pane.

3.
Do one of the following:

  • Select the attachment filename and click the Open button.

  • Double-click the attachment filename.

If you have a program that is associated with the selected attachment, the file opens in that program (Word or Photoshop, for example). Repeat this step for additional attachments that you want to open.
