Chapter 11. Receiving Email > Checking for New Email

Checking for New Email

You can check for new email manually or automatically. To check automatically (without your intervention), all you need to do is define one or more schedules. A schedule specifies the circumstances under which Entourage will check for new email, accounts that will be checked, and when the checking will occur. In this section, you'll learn how to check for new email manually and on an automatic, repeating schedule.

To check for new email manually

  • Do any of the following:

    • Click the Send & Receive toolbar icon to perform a send and receive for all email accounts that you've associated with the Send & Receive All schedule.

    • Click the down arrow beside the Send & Receive icon. From the drop-down menu, choose Send & Receive All or the name of a specific email account (Figure 11.1). If you choose an account, the send/receive is performed only for the chosen account.

    • Choose Tools > Send & Receive > Send & Receive All () to perform a send/receive for all email accounts that you've associated with the Send & Receive All schedule or choose the name of a specific email account.

    What About Identities?

    As explained in Chapter 2, you can create multiple identities so you can share Entourage with other users while keeping your email separate from theirs. You can create additional identities for family members or to distinguish business and home email activities, for example.

    As long as each user remembers to switch to his or her identity at the start of every session by choosing the Entourage > Switch Identity command and has a separate email account, only that user's new email will be retrieved by the Send & Receive All command.


    Enter requested passwords, if prompted.
