Chapter 1. Introducing Entourage 2004 > The Entourage Interface

The Entourage Interface

The Entourage window is divided into the following parts (Figure 1.6):

  • Title bar. Shows the name of the active component and user—if multiple users (called identities) have been defined.

  • Toolbar. Presents icons for common email, newsgroup, and other functions.

  • Component icons. To switch from one component to another, click an icon.

  • Folder bar. In the Mail component, it displays the name of the selected folder.

  • Folders list. Shows all email accounts, mail folders, news servers, newsgroup folders, and directory services.

  • Views list. Displays custom views (similar in concept to a saved search) that have been defined for the current component. In Mail, custom views are immediately below the Folders list. In all other components, these views replace the Folders list.

  • Message list. Displays basic information (called a header) for each email or newsgroup message. In other components, abbreviated contact records (Address Book) and titles (Notes and Tasks) are displayed in this area.

  • Preview pane. Shows the contents of the currently selected email or newsgroup message.

  • Filters. Used to display a subset of the currently viewed items, such as only email messages with the word printer in the Subject.

  • Status bar. Displays messages concerning your connection status and the current activity.
