Part: II Microsoft Word > Document Formatting

Chapter 4. Document Formatting

Unlike character and paragraph formatting (discussed in Chapter 5), document formatting applies to an entire document (or, in some cases, to a section of a document). You can use document formatting commands to alter the page orientation, set margins, or specify a custom paper size on which to print a memo or an envelope, for example.

You can add columns to create a newsletter, divide a document into sections (as you might do for a manual or report), and force pages and columns to break exactly where you want. As you choose new settings, Word automatically adjusts the text to fit the specified orientation, margins, paper size, columns, and so on.
