Using Functions

Functions are shortcuts for common or complex calculations that would be difficult to create with a basic formula. Excel's more than 200 built-in functions enable you to perform financial, statistical, logical, and text-based calculations.

Functions accept values (called arguments), perform an operation on them, and then return one or more values. After reviewing the following examples, see Table 11.4 at the end of this chapter for a list of common functions.
