About Precedence

Here's a fact of spreadsheet life. Few formulas consist only of two cell references or numbers separated by an operator. They're often considerably more complex. And while it might make your life simpler if formulas were evaluated from left to right, that isn't necessarily the case. Instead, spreadsheets follow established rules of precedence when evaluating formulas. These strict rules determine the order in which a formula's components are combined.
