Chapter 10. Formatting Worksheets > Setting Column and Row Sizes

Setting Column and Row Sizes

You can change the width of selected columns, as well as the height of selected rows, as your data dictates. This is particularly useful when you need to accommodate large fonts (row height) or lengthy text strings that spill over into adjacent columns (column width).

To manually adjust a column's width

1.
Move the pointer over the right edge of the heading of the column whose width you wish to change.

The pointer changes to a double arrow (Figure 10.1).

Figure 10.1. Move the pointer over the right edge of the column header. It changes to a double arrow.

2.
Click and drag to the right or left (Figure 10.2).

Figure 10.2. Drag right or left to change the column width.

As you drag, a ScreenTip appears, showing the current width of the column in characters (approximate) and the default unit of measure.

3.
Release the mouse button to complete the procedure.

4.
Repeat Steps 1–3 until the column is the desired width.
