Chapter 7. Creating Tables > Editing the Table Structure

Editing the Table Structure

Once you have created the skeleton of the table, you can fine-tune it. The Tables and Borders toolbar simplifies the process.

To edit the table structure

  • Do any of the following:

    • To move a line, click and drag it to a new location (Figure 7.9).

Figure 7.9. Click and drag any line to reposition it.

    • To change the style, width, or color of a line, choose new options from the Line Style, Line Weight, and Border Color menus on the Tables and Borders toolbar (Figure 7.10). Click any line in the table to apply the new settings to that line. New lines that you draw will also use those settings.

Figure 7.10. To draw or alter the lines in a table, select options from the Tables and Borders toolbar.

    • To distribute cell heights or widths evenly, click outside the table to clear the tool selection. Then click and drag through the cells you want to adjust, and click the Distribute Rows Evenly or Distribute Columns Evenly icon on the Tables and Borders toolbar (Figure 7.11).

    • To set row heights or column widths precisely, select the cells you want to modify and then choose Table > Table Properties. On the Row, Column, or Cell tab of the Table Properties dialog box (Figure 7.12), enter the preferred dimensions and click OK.

    • You can change the table width by entering a value in the Preferred width text box on the Table tab of the Table Properties dialog box. You can also change the size of a table manually by dragging the table's bottom-right corner.

    • To move a table, click the symbol in its upper-left corner and drag the table to a new location.
