To add graphics to the background

1.
Choose View > Master > Slide Master or press as you click the Slide View icon at the bottom of the document window.

The Slide Master window appears (Figure 17.31).

2.
Do one of the following:

  • To use your own image, choose Insert > Picture > From File. The Choose a Picture dialog box appears (see Figure 17.21). Select a picture file and click Insert. As necessary, modify, resize, or move the image.

  • Choose Format > Slide Design. Select a new slide design from the ones listed (Figure 17.32).

Figure 17.32. You can select a new slide design from the ones provided with PowerPoint.

You can also select a new design in the Formatting Palette. Expand the Change Slides section, click the Slide Design tab, and click a design thumbnail (Figure 17.33).

3.
Click a View icon (or choose a command from the View menu) to leave Slide Master view and see the effect of your changes.

✓ Tips

  • You can copy and paste a graphic image from another program onto the slide master, or copy and paste graphics from the slide master of another presentation onto the slide master of the current one.

  • Any graphics that are already on the slide master as part of the template background must be ungrouped before you can modify them.

  • You aren't restricted to adding only a single image or one that fills the entire slide. You might add your corporate logo to the slide master and set its transparency level high, enabling it to blend into the existing background, for example.
