Chapter 17. Creating a Presentation > To insert an image from a digital camera,...

To insert an image from a digital camera, card reader, or scanner

  • Do one of the following:

    • Choose Insert > Picture > From Scanner or Camera. In the Insert Picture from Scanner or Camera dialog box, choose your connected scanner, camera, or memory card reader from the Device pop-up menu, and then click Acquire. Your device's software will run, enabling you to scan the image or download the photo(s).

    • Certain devices, such as memory card readers, may mount on the Desktop, acting exactly like a removable drive. To import pictures from the device, double-click the picture placeholder on the slide. In the Choose a Picture dialog box (Figure 17.23), navigate to the device, select the picture to import, and click Insert.

    • Perform a scan using your scanner software (or a compatible image-editing program) and save the scanned image to disk. Then insert the image into a slide by double-clicking a picture placeholder or by choosing Insert > Picture > From File.

    • Run Apple's Image Capture utility (found in the Applications folder). Assuming that it finds your connected device (Figure 17.24), select a download location from the Download To drop-down list, set Automatic Task to None, and click Download Some. The window expands to show thumbnails of all images found on the device (Figure 17.25). Select the desired images by clicking or -clicking their thumbnails and then click Download.

After downloading, you can insert any of these images into a slide by double-clicking a picture placeholder or by choosing Insert > Picture > From File.

✓ Tips

  • You can also insert a stored picture from a Desktop-mounted device by choosing Insert > Picture > From File.

  • Here's another trick for a Desktop-mounted device. Since it does act like a removable drive, treat it like one. Open the device by double-clicking its icon. Switch to column view and continue opening items until you see the image files (Figure 17.26). Then either drag them onto your hard disk (to save them) or drag one directly into a slide's picture placeholder.

Figure 17.26. If a device appears on the Desktop, you can open it like any other disk in order to find the picture you want to import.

  • You can drag any compatible image that's stored on disk directly into a slide's picture placeholder.

  • Don't import or drag multiple pictures into the same placeholder. Rather than replacing the previous image, this places the new image on top of the old one! Delete the original image first.
