Trapping

Trapping, as one printer confided to me, is a printing problem that printers have successfully foisted on designers. At issue here is the way mechanical or physical interactions on press can cause paper to shift or stretch and inks to misregister as the paper rolls through the CMYK printing units. Misregistration manifests itself as unsightly white gaps between adjoining colors or as unwanted underlying colors showing through. Misregistration is especially noticeable with bright or contrasting colors (Figure 5-6).
