Word offers a number of formatting options and techniques in addition to those I discuss in Chapter 3:
Character spacing includes the horizontal scale, spacing, position, and kerning of characters.
Drop Caps enlarges the first character(s) of a paragraph and wraps text around it.
Change Case changes the case of typed characters.
Bullets and numbering instructs Word to automatically insert bullet characters or numbers at the beginning of paragraphs.
Borders and shading enable you to place borders around text, and color or shades of gray within text areas.
Format Painter enables you to copy font and paragraph formats from one selection to another.
Styles enables you to define and apply named sets of formatting options for individual characters or paragraphs.
AutoFormat instructs Word to automatically format text you type.
Breaks determines the end of a page, section, or column.
Multiple-column text enables you to use newspaper-like columns in documents.
Headers and footers enables you to specify text to appear at the top and bottom of every page in the document.
Tip
It's a good idea to have a solid understanding of the concepts covered in Chapter 3 before you read this chapter.
