Opening Secure PDFs

Opening a password-protected document, whether it's one that you protected or one you received from someone else, takes only a moment.

To open a locked PDF file:

1.
Double-click the file's icon or select it in Acrobat's Open dialog box.

The Password dialog box appears, notifying you that the document is protected by a password (Figure B.6).

Figure B.6. Enter the password to open the password-protected document.

2.
Enter the password and click the OK button to open the document.

If you enter the correct password, the document opens.

If you enter the wrong password, an alert dialog box appears (Figure B.7). Click the OK button to return to the Password dialog box; then enter the correct password and click the OK button.

Figure B.7. If you enter the wrong password, click the OK button to try again. If you enter the wrong password three times, you'll have to reopen the document.
