Chapter 13. Digital Signatures > Handling Digital Signatures

Handling Digital Signatures

Acrobat's Self-Sign Security is the default signature handler for Acrobat 5.0. This program reads the assigned profile for each signature to verify and secure it. It includes both a private and public key to create and verify signatures. The private key is password-protected so that only the user can sign the document. The public key is used to verify the authenticity of the signature and is embedded in the PDF document.

The first step in creating a digital signature is choosing a signature handler.
