Chapter 4. Creating PDFs

To convert documents to Portable Document Format (PDF), you need the full version of Acrobat. The principal method of creating a PDF requires you to output the document as a PostScript file, which you then feed into Acrobat Distiller (a component of the Acrobat package). You can generate the PostScript files directly from the Print dialog box of most software applications. Distiller provides many options and can handle PostScript commands as well as objects.

You also can create PDFs directly from within authoring applications. Although simpler than working with Distiller, these methods provide much less control of the parameters of the final product.
