Chapter 10. Annotating PDFs > Summarizing Annotations

Summarizing Annotations

Acrobat provides a method for summarizing all the annotations in a document quickly. This feature actually creates a new PDF file with the annotations listed and completely documented.

To create a summary of the annotations in a document:

1.
Choose Tools > Comments > Summarize (Ctrl-Shift-T/Command-Shift-T).

The Summarize Comments dialog box appears.

2.
Choose how to sort annotations: by author, date, page, or type of annotation (Figure 10.50).

Figure 10.50. You can sort annotations by author, date, or page, as well as by type of annotation.

You can also filter out certain authors or types of annotations by clicking the Filter button, which takes you to the Filter Comments dialog box (discussed in “To filter out unneeded annotations” earlier in this chapter).

Acrobat will churn a bit if you have a large number of annotations. Then a new document appears, with all annotations listed (Figure 10.51).

Figure 10.51. The summary of your annotations can be saved or printed as a PDF document.
