More Toolbar Tips and Tricks

Not only can you rearrange the toolbars' order within their normal location under the menu bar—you can move them anywhere on your screen, scattering them hither and yon, if you like. And when you move them from their normal positions, the toolbars can take on different orientations: The individual buttons on each toolbar can be stacked vertically rather than horizontally, for instance, and can be arranged in one or two columns.

To move a toolbar to a new position on the screen:

1.
Position the mouse pointer over the separator bar of the toolbar you wish to move, then press and hold down the mouse button.

2.
Drag the toolbar away from its normal position (Figure 1.31).

Once you've positioned the toolbar where you want it, release the mouse button (Figure 1.32).
