Summary

Office has come a long way in support of XML functionality. Office 2003 has several new features that improve ease of use when working with XML data and technologies. The familiar user interfaces of Word, Excel, and Access make for an easy transition to working with XML. New objects, such as maps in Excel and data views in Word, remove much of the burden of implementing confusing schema and transformation processing.

Word 2003 has several new ways of working with XML. The document area displays XML element tags, attributes are exposed through a dialog, there is dynamic schema support, and so on. Excel 2003 has similar abilities and provides methods to the functionality through the new map object. Access 2003 has gained the ability to export related data; otherwise, the XML features in Access 2003 are not as sophisticated as those in Word 2003 or Excel 2003.
