Chapter 9. XML and Office > Using the MSXML Parser to Work with XML Data

Using the MSXML Parser to Work with XML Data

Even though Microsoft Office 2003 has a great deal of XML support built into some products, there is still quite a bit that cannot be accomplished. For example, there is no real way to code XML solutions with PowerPoint. Excel requires a map for import and export. Access cannot import attributes.

Microsoft provides a robust XML parser, called MSXML (also known as Microsoft XML Core Services). It is available as a free download from the Microsoft MSDN Web site (see the Appendix). It is implemented as a reference within the References list in the Visual Basic Editor. The MSXML Parser can be used with any product.
