Summary

This case study shows how the new XML features in Word 2003 solve a real business problem. While the structured XML format is great for data storage, there must also be ways to work with the data. Schemas and transformations complement the data by providing the muscle to manipulate the data in a meaningful way.

Word plays a key role in running a content reuse application such as that shown here. The implementation of XML use in Word 2003 enables users to enter information within the XML tags, or in other areas of the document. This functionality meets the requirement of keyed entry of the XML Comments, as well as entry into the header, footer, or other areas outside of the XML tags.
