Summary

The combination of uses offered by Outlook—contact management, scheduling, e-mail functionality, and more—allows great flexibility for designing custom solutions. An understanding of the key objects and methodologies used in Outlook is critical to the design of such solutions. As seen in this chapter, there are quite a few powerful and productive features beyond what is seen in the user interface. Additional solution building with Outlook is possible with the inclusion of Collaboration Data Objects (CDO). Using CDO allows interaction with the Exchange server—useful for solutions that involve companywide initiatives. See the Appendix for resources on Collaboration Data Objects.
