Summary

The intent of this chapter was to give a reasonable overview of InfoPath. Most of the basics were touched on. The layout, controls, and data source usage were explained and demonstrated. How a form is designed was covered in detail. The programming environment was introduced.

A single chapter cannot cover all facets of this comprehensive product. Issues such as security, menu bar customization, and deployment options have not been addressed. InfoPath is just being released and fills an emerging niche in the business place. There will doubtless be a slew of books devoted exclusively to InfoPath that will fully describe all the ins and outs of the product. The impact of InfoPath has not yet been felt, but by all reasonable assumptions, InfoPath could become a “killer app.” Controlling data from entry to execution is certainly a valuable advantage.
