Chapter 11. Introduction to InfoPath > Step-by-Step Form Design

Step-by-Step Form Design

This section shows the steps taken to create an InfoPath form. When sections or controls are placed on a form, either the developer must bind them to a group or field in the data source or, if working with an unbound form, InfoPath will build the schema automatically.

To exemplify building a form, a certain approach is taken to having a schema to work from. The new form will be based on an XML file, but just for the purpose of letting InfoPath create a schema from the file's structure. InfoPath's flexible nature is put to use here. In this example, we are not interested in any data at this point, but we do want the structure of the XML. The benefit here is that we do not need a real schema file to get started. Bear in mind that this is just one approach to form creation in InfoPath. Listing 11.2 displays the XML file.
