InfoPath File Types

InfoPath form templates are stored in a compressed format with the .xsn extension. A form template file actually can be decompressed to individualize the underlying files. In design mode, the File menu has the Extract Form Files item. Using this command decompresses the .xsn file into multiple files. The types of files used by InfoPath are summarized in Table 11.1.

Form File (.xsn)The compressed (CAB) file that contains all the other files.
Manifest (.xsf)Contains information and references to all of the other files in the form solution. A master file of sorts.
Schema (.xsd)The schema for the form. There will also be a schema for secondary data sources.
View (.xsl)Each view in the form solution is described in a separate transformation file.
Sample Data (.xml)Contains sample data for use in previewing the form.
Script Code (.js or .vbs)Either a JScript or a VBScript code module.
