Chapter 2. Word Basics > Launching Word

Launching Word

To use Word, you must open the Word application. This loads Word into RAM (Random Access Memory), so your computer can work with it.

To launch Word by opening its application icon

1.
In the Finder, locate the Microsoft Word application icon (Figure 1). It should be in the Microsoft Office 2001 or Microsoft Word 2001 folder on your hard disk.

Click the icon once to select it, then choose File > Open or press .

or

Double-click the icon.

The Word splash screen appears briefly (Figure 2), then the Project Gallery window appears (Figure 3).
