Chapter 2. Word Basics > Inserting & Deleting Text

Inserting & Deleting Text

You can insert or delete characters at the insertion point at any time.

  • When you insert characters, any text to the right of the insertion point shifts to the right to make room for new characters ( Figures 35 and 36).

Figure 35. Position the insertion point.

Figure 36. Type the text that you want to insert.

  • When you delete text, any text to the right of the insertion point shifts to the left to close up space left by deleted characters (Figures 37 and 38).

Figure 37. Position the insertion point to the right of the character(s) you want to delete.

Figure 38. Press D to delete the characters, one at a time.

  • When you insert or delete text, word wrap adjusts if necessary to comfortably fit characters on each line ( Figures 36 and 38).
