Lesson 11. Enhancing a Multimedia Project > Adding multiple actions to a button

Adding multiple actions to a button

You can assign more than one action to a button, and also sort the order in which those actions occur after assigning them. You'll add an action that plays a sound as well as returns the user to the home page.

1.
Go to page 3 of the tutorial document.

2.
Select the form tool (), and double-click the Home button.

3.
Click the Actions tab in the Field Properties dialog box.

4.
Select Mouse Up. Notice that the Execute Menu Item action is already listed in the Do the Following column.

Double-click the button

to open the Field Properties dialog box.

Now you'll add a sound file to execute when the user clicks the Home button.

5.
Click Add. For Type, choose Sound, and then click the Select Sound button.

6.
Locate and select one of the clicking sound files—click1.wav (Windows) or click1.aiff (Mac OS)—in the Lesson11 folder, and click Open. Then click Set Action.

Now two actions are listed in the Do the Following column—Execute Menu Item and Sound. When the button is clicked, the actions will activate in the order listed. But for this tutorial you want the user to hear the sound first, then go to the destination view. So, you'll reorder the actions.

7.
Select Sound in the Do the Following column, and click Up. Sound moves up in the list and will now activate before the Execute Menu Item action.

Move Sound up to top of list

to change the order in which the actions are executed.

8.
Click OK.

9.
Select the hand tool (), and try out the Home button. If you have the correct software and hardware, you will hear the sound as you jump to the first page from page 3 of the tutorial document.

10.
Choose File > Save to save the Tutor1.pdf file.
