Building an index

You use the Acrobat Catalog feature to build full-text indexes of PDF document collections. A full-text index is a searchable database of all the text in a document or set of documents. Your documents should be complete in content and electronic features such as links, bookmarks, and form fields before you use Catalog to index them.

To use Catalog and Search on secured documents that do not allow content extraction, you must have selected the Certified Plugins Only option in the Options General preferences. Also, you cannot use Catalog on documents that require a password for opening.
