Chapter 12. Making It Look Good > Changing the Size of Columns and Rows

Changing the Size of Columns and Rows

You can improve the organization of data in your spreadsheet simply by making a column or row wider or narrower. This technique is also useful if data in a certain column or row is causing the whole spreadsheet to look unbalanced, or you'd like to fit more columns or rows on a page. It's an easy problem to fix.

To change the width of a column:

1.
Place the mouse pointer on the right edge of the gray heading of the column you wish to change. The pointer changes to a double arrow (Figure 12.1).

Figure 12.1. Point the mouse at the right edge of the column header; the pointer changes to a double arrow.

2.
Drag the double arrow right or left (Figures 12.2, Figure 12.3). While you're dragging, a yellow ScreenTip appears, containing the new width of the column, measured in characters.

Figure 12.2. Drag right or left to change the column width.
