Chapter 18. Getting Started > Starting a Presentation Document

Starting a Presentation Document

As in Word and Excel, the Project Gallery window serves as the starting point for your PowerPoint presentation. You can get right to work designing your project from scratch, or you can select a template from two presentation categories—Content and Designs—which offer a variety of designs to jazz up your visuals.

To begin a presentation:

1.
Double-click the Microsoft PowerPoint icon in the Microsoft Office 2001 folder (Figure 18.1).

This launches PowerPoint and opens the Project Gallery window.

2.
If you don't want to use a template, click the PowerPoint Presentation icon (Figure 18.2).

If you want to use a template, select Presentations from the Category menu in the left panel of the Project Gallery window, and select a template from the Content and Designs categories that best matches the type of presentation you want to create (Figure 18.3).

Using these categories is further discussed later in this chapter.

3.
Choose a slide layout from the New Slide dialog box, and click OK.

A new Presentation document opens.
