Chapter 6. Creating Graphics and Drawing... > Making Text Conform to Shapes

Making Text Conform to Shapes

WordArt is specially formatted text that Word can display in a number of preset styles. There are several tools to help you create and edit WordArt.

  1. Click the Insert WordArt button on the Drawing toolbar.

  2. Click a style in the WordArt Gallery window that appears (Figure 6.18).

Figure 6.18. Click the Insert WordArt button on the Drawing toolbar, and click one of the WordArt styles in the WordArt Gallery window.

  3. The Edit WordArt Text dialog box appears (Figure 6.19). Replace "Your Text Here" with your own text. Set the font, size, and style you want, and click OK.

Figure 6.19. Replace "Your Text Here" with your own words, then adjust the font from the Font pull-down menu and the size from the Size pull-down menu.

The WordArt and the WordArt toolbar appear (Figure 6.20). You can move, resize, and reshape the WordArt using the handles that appear, just as with other graphics. To move the WordArt, move the pointer over the text itself (the pointer turns into a hand), then click and drag it to its new location.

Figure 6.20. Your text appears within its own text box in the document.

  4. To change the shape of the curve(s) to which the WordArt is bound, click the WordArt Shape button, and choose from the palette that appears (Figure 6.21).

Figure 6.21. Click the WordArt Shape button on the WordArt toolbar to get a palette from which to select a new shape for the WordArt.

  5. To change the angle of the WordArt graphic, click the Free Rotate button on the WordArt toolbar. Click and drag the corner handles that appear on the WordArt to rotate it (Figure 6.22).
