Chapter 7. Creating and Inserting Tables > Editing the Table Structure

Editing the Table Structure

When you have the skeleton of your table, you can then start fine-tuning the rows and columns. The Tables and Borders toolbar will help you edit the table.

To edit the table structure:

1.
To move a line, click and drag it.

The line appears as a dotted line while you're dragging it and becomes solid again when you release the mouse (Figure 7.12).

Figure 7.12. Click and drag the dotted line to reposition it.

2.
To make cell heights or widths even, click outside the table to clear the tool selection.

Then click and drag through the cells you want to adjust, and click either the Distribute Rows Evenly or Distribute Columns Evenly button in the Tables and Borders toolbar (Figure 7.13).

Figure 7.13. Click the Distribute Rows Evenly or Distribute Columns Evenly button in the Tables and Borders toolbar to even up the rows or columns.

3.
To set row height or column width precisely, select the cells you want to modify and then select Table > Table Properties.

Under the Cell tab of the Table Properties dialog box, enter the preferred width you want to use in the text boxes, or use the arrows to choose predefined values (Figure 7.14).

Figure 7.14. Choose Table > Table Properties, and enter the preferred width for the cells in the Table Properties dialog box.
