Chapter 3. Creating a Document > Opening a Blank Document

Opening a Blank Document

When you first launch Word, you will notice that the Project Gallery window appears, as in other Office applications. For now, we'll focus on creating a blank document and adding text to it. The next chapter covers the Project Gallery in the sections on templates and wizards.

To open a blank document:

1.
Double-click the Microsoft Word icon in the Microsoft Office 2001 folder (Figure 3.2).

This launches Word and opens the Project Gallery window.

The Word Document icon is selected, and Blank Document is highlighted by default in the Category menu (Figure 3.3).

Click OK.

A blank document appears as Document 1, ready for you to enter text (Figure 3.4).

Start typing your text.
