Headers and footers add consistency to the document and a reference point for where each page is in the document. You can include any information you want—your name, the title of the document, maybe a section title. Headers appear at the top of every page, and footers appear at the bottom of every page.
To insert headers and footers:
1. | Select View > Header and Footer. Word switches to Page Layout view. Different views are discussed in Chapter 4. The Header and Footer toolbar appears (Figure 3.44) Figure 3.44. The Header and Footer toolbar helps you format the appearance of headers and footers in the document.
An insertion point appears in the blank header space (Figure 3.45). Figure 3.45. Enter the header text at the insertion point.

2. | To edit the footer rather than the header, click the Switch Between Header and Footer button on the Header and Footer toolbar. |
3. | Type text for the left side of the header or footer (Figure 3.46). Figure 3.46. Your header text appears in the text box.

4. | Click the Close button in the Header and Footer toolbar when you've finished editing the header or footer. Your document returns to Normal view, or the view you were in before you selected Header and Footer. |
