Adding Error Bars

Error bars are lines drawn through data points that indicate the possible range of uncertain values (the "plus or minus" uncertainty).

To add error bars to a chart:

1.
Select a data series to which you want to add error bars, and bring up the Format Data Series dialog box by double-clicking the data series (see "To modify the chart type and data series," above).

Under the Y Error Bars or X Error Bars tab of the dialog box, set the options you want (Figure 15.25). X Error Bars are available only for scatter or bubble charts.

Click OK; the error bars appear (Figure 15.26).
