Chapter 14. Analyzing Data > Reorganizing Data Using PivotTables

Reorganizing Data Using PivotTables

A PivotTable is an interactive table that summarizes and analyzes data from existing lists and tables. PivotTables are a convenient way to rearrange sheets in order to look at large amounts of data in different ways. Start with a long list or database, and create a PivotTable summary of the data. Then use the PivotTable features to quickly and easily change columns into rows, investigate details that make up the summary numbers, and find the presentation format that best reveals the information you want to know.

PivotTables are rich with functionality; a complete discussion of how to use all their features is beyond the scope of this book. We'll get you started creating a PivotTable, and you can explore them from there.
