Creating a Character Style

You can also create character styles for text. Character styles can be applied within a paragraph that already has a paragraph style set to it. The character style will only apply to the specific word that you select and only applies formatting such as font name, style, and size.

To create a character style:

1.
Select the text for which you want to define a new style.

Select Format > Style.

The Style dialog box appears (Figure 5.20).

In the Style dialog box, click New to create a new style.

The New Style dialog box appears.

In the New Style dialog box, type a style name.

Select Character from the pull-down Style type list (Figure 5.21).

Click the Format button, and choose Font from the Format menu.

The Font dialog box appears (Figure 5.22).

In the Font dialog box, select the formatting you'd like, and then click OK.

8.
Click OK again in the New Style dialog box.

9.
Click Apply in the Style dialog box. The text you selected in step 1 will be formatted according to the new style, and the new style name will appear in the Style list.
