Choosing a Style

A style contains formatting choices for text. It's useful for quickly and easily applying a preset combination of formatting to characters or paragraphs. A style you choose called Heading, for example, can contain all of the formatting for headings. To format a particular heading, you'd select the heading and then choose one of the styles called Heading from the Style list.

Character styles, which can be applied to selected characters of text, contain font formatting. Paragraph styles, which are applied to entire paragraphs, hold both font and paragraph formatting.
