Chapter 6. Formatting Cells > The Format Painter

The Format Painter

The Format Painter lets you copy cell formatting and apply it to other cells. This can help you format worksheets quickly and consistently.

To use the Format Painter

1.
Select a cell with the formatting you want to copy.

Click the Format Painter button on the Standard toolbar. The mouse pointer turns into a little plus sign with a paintbrush beside it and a marquee appears around the original selection (Figure 53).

3.
Use the Format Painter pointer to select the cells you want to apply the formatting to (Figure 54). When you release the mouse button, the formatting is applied (Figure 55).
