Chart Type

Excel includes dozens of standard and custom chart types. You select the chart type when you create a chart with the Chart Wizard, but you can change the type at any time. You can also add your formatted charts to the chart gallery so you can use them to create future charts.

To change the chart type

1.
Activate the chart by switching to its chart sheet or, if it's an embedded chart, by clicking within it.

Choose Chart > Chart Type (Figure 28) to display the Chart Type dialog box.

Click the Standard Types tab (Figure 43):

  • To select a standard chart type, select a Chart type, then select a Chart sub-type.

  • To apply a chart type to a selected data series, turn on the Apply to selection check box.

  • To remove formatting you have applied to the chart, turn on the Default formatting check box.

    or

    Click the Custom Type tab:

  • To select a built-in chart type, select the Built-in radio button (Figure 44), then select a Chart type.

  • To select a user-defined chart type, select the User-defined radio button (Figure 45), then select a Chart type.

4.
Click OK to apply the chart type.
